When, while the wonderful valley overflows with fume around me, and the meridian sun strikes the upper surface of the impervious foliage of my trees, and yet a couple of stray glimmers take into the inward safe-haven, I hurl myself down among the tall grass by the streaming stream; and, as I lie near the earth, 1,000 obscure plants are seen by me: when I hear the buzz of the little world among the stalks, and develop acquainted with the endless unbelievable types of the bugs and flies, then I feel the presence of the All-powerful, who shaped us in his own picture, and the breath of that widespread love which bears and supports us, as it floats around us in an unfathomable length of time of rapture; and afterward, old buddy, when murkiness overspreads my eyes, and paradise and earth appear to stay in my spirit and retain its power, similar to the type of a cherished fancy woman, then I frequently think with yearning, Goodness, would I could portray these originations, could present for paper all that is living so full and warm inside me, that it very well may be the reflection of my spirit, as my spirit is the reflection of the boundless God!

O my companion — yet it is a lot for my solidarity — I sink under the heaviness of the quality of these dreams! A magnificent tranquility has claimed my whole soul, similar to these sweet mornings of spring which I appreciate with my entire heart. I’m distant from everyone else, and feel the appeal of presence here, which was made for the ecstasy of spirits like mine.

I am so cheerful, my dear companion, so consumed in the wonderful feeling of simple serene presence, that I disregard my gifts. I ought to be unequipped for drawing a solitary stroke right now; but I feel that I never was a more prominent craftsman than now.

A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone, and feel the charm of existence in this spot, which was created for the bliss of souls like mine.

I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents. I should be incapable of drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now.
