    How it works

    Itraconazole is used to treat yeast infections of the mouth and throat or of the esophagus (tube that connects the throat to the stomach). Itraconazole is in a class of antifungals called triazoles. It works by slowing the growth of fungi that cause infection.

    Drug Interactions

    Itraconazole : Rifampicin , cyclosporin , H2 antagonists , antacids , tamsulosin , antiarrhythmics , digoxin , cilosrazole , repaglinide , saxagliptin , midazolam , nadolol , tacrolimus , salmeterol , reboxetine , statins , tolvaptan , meloxicam , sirolimus , domperidone , ivabradine, ergot alkaloids.

    Indication

    It is used for infections caused by fungi or yeasts such as vaginal infections, dermatological infections, onychomycosis etc.

    When not to Use

    It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to itraconazole or to any of the excipients.

    PRECAUTIONS

    Precaution

    When driving vehicles and operating machinery the possibility of adverse reactions such as dizziness, visual disturbances and hearing loss , which may occur in some instances, must be taken into account.

    WARNINGS

    Warning 1

    Itraconazole has been shown to have a negative inotropic effect and it has been associated with reports of CHF.

    Warning 2

    There is limited information regarding cross-hypersensitivity between itraconazole and other azole antifungal agents. Caution should be used in prescribing itraconazole capsules to patients with hypersensitivity to other azoles.

    Warning 3

    The use of capsules in pediatric patients is not recommended unless it is determined that the potential benefit outweighs the potential risks.
